Phone Expectations
- Phones are to be off and away for the day.
- If a student is seen with a phone out during school hours the phone will be confiscated by the teacher who sees the device.
- The teacher will have a restorative conversation with the student regarding why the phone was out.
- The student will write their name, student number and tutor class on the envelope provided and seal the envelope.
- The dean of the student will send an email to families so that you are aware of the confiscation and when the student can collect their phone.
- Confiscated phones are securely stored in the administration building until the date the student is due to collect the phone.
- Phones can only be collected after school on a Wednesday or a Friday from a Deputy Principal in the student administration area.
- If there is a Health and Safety reason as to why the student needs the phone after school. Please contact your student’s dean so arrangements can be made if necessary. If an exemption is granted for them to have the phone overnight, the student will hand the phone in again the next morning.
Thank you for your ongoing support with this.
BYOD
We recommend all students to bring a device with the following specifications:
- A laptop, netbook, or tablet PC (smart PC) will provide students with a comprehensive learning tool. Apple or Android tablets are not recommended, and do not meet NZQA requirements for Digital Exams.
- Operating system– this device must have a full operating system – either Windows or Mac OSX. Chromebooks are only suitable for Year 9 & 10, e.g. Adobe Creative Cloud Suite cannot be installed on them.
- Internet Browser – The Google Chrome browser is necessary for our systems.
- Common browser plugins – The device should have common browser plugins installed on it – like Adobe Acrobat Reader, Java, Adobe Shockwave and Apple Quicktime.
- Language – the device operating system and browsers must be set to display in English.
- Google Workspace for Education – we use a customised EGGS G Suite environment for teaching and learning. This provides students with a free Office-type environment available using the Internet.
- Due to factors such as battery life and warranty, you’ll probably need to purchase two devices during the student’s 5 years at EGGS.
Please remember to name your daughter’s device for safety.
