Out of Zone Applications

Out of zone places are available to students who live outside the home zone and within the Auckland City boundaries, and who are not currently enrolled at EGGS.

Students who live outside the home zone and within the Auckland City boundaries, and who are not currently enrolled at EGGS, may apply for out of zone places if a ballot is offered.

Please note the ballots are for places as a day student. Students intending to apply as a boarder at Epsom House (for students residing out of Auckland) will need to contact Mrs Chris Barnes.

2021 entry

Applications for out of zone places for 2021 have now closed.

2022 entry

Applications for out of zone places for 2022 are open.

Year 9

The Board of Trustees expects to be able to offer out of zone places for Year 9 to priority groups and a limited number of general applicants. At this stage we are unable to confirm the actual number of places available. The Board will decide on the number of available places for Year 9 students just before the ballot. They will decide this based on the number of applications from students who live within the School's home zone.

Years 10-13

In past years we have usually been able to offer places in Years 10-13 to priority group applicants and to a small number of general applicants. The Board will decide on the number of places available for each year level just before the ballots.  Unsuccessful applicants will be ranked in numerical order and placed on waiting lists. The Board will review availability in November and January.

Ballots

The process we follow to select out of zone students is prescribed by legislation and is set out in our enrolment scheme.

Applicants will be processed in the following order of priority:

  • First priority:  This priority category is not applicable at this school because the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary.
  • Second priority: must be given to applicants who are siblings of current students.
  • Third priority: must be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.
  • Fourth priority: must be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.
  • Fifth priority: must be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the board of the school or a child of a member of the board of the school.
  • Sixth priority: must be given to all other applicants.

Applicants will be required to provide evidence to support their inclusion in a priority group.

If there are more applicants than there are places available, we will use a ballot to randomly select students in the priority group to fill the places. Unsuccessful applicants will be ranked in their numerical order and put on a waiting list. Ballots are conducted under the supervision of a qualified solicitor.

Due to the large number of out of zone applications received and the limited number of places available, many applicants are unsuccessful in the ballot. It is important that you also apply to your local school for enrolment.
