Year 10 Market Day Wed 2 Nov Senior Prizegiving
Dear parents, caregivers and students
2016 marks the beginning of digital examinations at Epsom Girls Grammar School. In our 99th TO VIEW MORE EVENTS CLICK HERE >
year we have been one of the early adopters of digital trials and pilots for NZQA. This has
included 121 students sitting a Year 11 English exam, 124 students sitting a Year 11 Geography
exam, 182 students sitting a Year 11 Biology exam and 41 students sitting a Year 11 Spanish
exam. Our scale here at EGGS makes us a valuable example of infrastructure coping with large
numbers. As you can imagine ICT infrastructure is a signifcant investment for the School and
we aim to continue on building capacity in this area as digital assessment is set to expand in the
next few years. I would like to thank the staf involved, led by Deputy Principal Karyn Dempsey
and Qualifcations Manager Steve Nowell; Deputy Principal Sarah Dwan and Manager of ICT
Brian Foster and his team, as well as the double supervision staf during the sessions. I would
also like to thank the students for dipping their toes in these new waters going bravely and
calmly where we have not been before!

Term 3 fnishes at the end of next week. For seniors it has been a term of, in many cases, fnishing
internal assessments and then preparing for the School Examinations which fnish today. Next
week senior students will get valuable feedback from these exams to help them plan ahead for
where they need to put their energies in the coming weeks. All senior students should make
sure that they have a total break for part of the two week holiday and then also decide how
much time they need to put into efective work towards meeting their goals in the external
examinations. For some students it is getting close to portfolio submission time and this means
careful planning so that the last few days are not unduly anxious ones. Please remember that
all year level programmes are manageable. Getting on with a task at a time from a list is a really
simple idea that students tell me can really make a diference especially when you begin to
tick those tasks of.

You will see a lot of wonderful results from various activities and competitions in this edition
of EGGSNEWS, including:
the double accolades for Year 13 student Fia Roache. Fia is a gifted photographer and the two
awards are testament to this see Page 5 for details.
1st place in the New Zealand Secondary School Table Tennis Championships, with Ruofei
Rao and Christina Zhou 1st and 2nd respectively in the Individual Competition. This is an
outstanding result.
1st places for Jess Gracie and Sarah Gatland in individual fencing categories.
The next EGGSNEWS will come out at the end of Week 2 of Term 4. I would like to wish all
students and staf a well-earned holiday break and best wishes to the Language Literature
Team who will compete at the National Tournament of the Minds Competition in Wellington in
the frst weekend of the holidays.
