Dear parents, caregivers and students

Last Thursday when Sarah Stenson and I wished the Sports Captains well for Tournament
Week, and for the competitions that occur outside of the week, it was absolutely evident that
these young sportswomen have the necessary level of commitment, skill and maturity for a
national competition. We talked about the need at all levels for competitors to show grace
in both defeat and victory from the Olympians who have demonstrated that recently right
through to young children learning from those frst hard knocks and from frst successes.
From what I have seen from our sportswomen we can all be proud of EGGS students who
represent the School in the wide range of sports ofered.

Congratulations to Paradisum and their conductor Virginia Le Cren on their Silver Award at
the Big Sing National Finale in Dunedin last weekend. Their performance at the Gala Concert
was wonderful. Also present were Anna Dong and Anna Dolan (Year 13, 2015) as part of
the NZ Secondary Schools Choir students are able to remain in the choir in their frst year
beyond school. Anna Dong is now heading to Princeton on a Scholarship as an International
student in America and we wish her well for this next part of her education.

A reminder as per the email that came out earlier, a combined NZEI and PPTA paid union
meeting is being held on Monday (5 September). All students will be dismissed at the end
of period 3, 12.25pm. Supervision will be available for students in the library from 1.15
3.15pm if they are unable to be at home. Students will need to sign in at the library at 1.15pm
so that we know who is on site. The focus for the meeting is the proposed global funding
model. This is an important matter for discussion as early inspection of the detail that is
currently available indicates that there do not seem to be obvious signifcant advantages for
schools in the model proposed.

Senior students start their School examinations on Thursday 8 September
and the exams run until the end of Friday 16 September. As we have
limited study space available at school, students should study at home
during the times when they do not have an exam. Full, correct uniform
is worn during this period and please remember to allow plenty of time
to get here to be in good time before an exam starts. The senior school
will have an assembly on Monday morning to go through examination
