Professional Learning Group - Writing in the Junior School

As part of the Auckland Central Community of Schools initiative a Professional Learning Group has
been established with a focus on writing in the Junior School. Our goal is to nurture more students
to be aware of the need to create clear meaning for their audience and for students to actively make
critical meaning from a variety of texts. A number of initiatives such as: interweaving writing mechanics
into content exercises, philosophy circles, fipping the learning activities, and student learning logs are
being trialed to measure value added efects this year. It is exciting to work alongside our Intermediate
Feeder Schools and fellow EGGS Faculty teachers to poach, adapt and experiment with learning
strategies so that students create their own viewpoint from which to write clearly and engagingly.
