Enrolment Scheme

The Board of Trustees and Ministry of Education acknowledge that the existing facilities at Epsom Girls Grammar School are likely to become overcrowded without an enrolment scheme. This scheme applies to all students who are applying for entry to Epsom Girls Grammar School.

Home Zone Enrolments

The geographic area in the scheme shall stand fast and shall operate as the school's home zone, under Section 11D of the Education Act 1989. The Home Zone is:

From the east - the area bounded by Upland Rd (from the harbour), Remuera Rd, Greenlane East, Greenlane West, round One Tree Hill as far south as Golf Rd, to Manukau Rd. to Pah Rd to Selwyn Rd via St Andrews Rd to Landscape Rd, to Mt Eden Rd to Balmoral Rd. Balmoral Rd to Dominion Rd, to Valley Rd to Horoeka Ave, to View Rd to Mt Eden Rd to Normanby Rd, Boston Rd to Khyber Pass to Park Rd to Carlton Gore Rd, George St and along the eastern side of the Domain, to Parnell Rd, The Strand to the harbour at Mechanics Bay. (Note: Houses on both sides of the road on the boundaries plus any cul-de-sacs off an included road are included in the zone.)

All students living in the home zone are entitled to enrol at the school at any time.
Epsom House Students
Students accepted for Epsom House will have entry to Epsom Girls Grammar School as of right.

Out-of-Zone Enrolments

The selection of students who live outside the geographic area (ie. the home zone) will be in accordance with the requirements of Section 11F of the Education Act 1989 and the instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11 G (1) of the Education Act 1989.

In this school applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:

First Priority: will be given to applicants who are sisters of current students.

Second Priority: will be given to applicants who are sisters of former students.

Third Priority: will be given to applicants who are daughters of board employees.

Fourth Priority: will be given to all other applicants.

If there are more applicants in the first, second, third or fourth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by a ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11 G (1) of the Education Act 1989. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.

Each year the Board of Trustees will:

Determine a period during which applications for enrolment will be accepted for the following year
Develop procedures to be followed in the application process
Specify the information which parents may be required to supply in support of an application for enrolment for the following year

Applications will be accepted in terms of this scheme. The school retains the right to make all inquiries necessary in its opinion to obtain information that may assist it to reach a decision in any particular case.
