Year 9
The Epsom Girls Grammar School Year 9 curriculum is designed to give every student a foundation year on which to build future learning. It is designed to prepare the student for whatever direction or directions her life and interests may go. It values all areas of knowledge as well as meeting the requirements of the New Zealand Curriculum.
In 2012 all girls will study English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, Technology, Physical Education, Core Art, Core Music, Core Drama, Health and one language chosen from the following list.
Chinese Second Language, French, Japanese, Latin, Maori, English for Speakers of other Languages.
(Please Note: Chinese Second Language, French, Japanese and Latin study must begin in Year 9. These subjects cannot be started later. It is strongly recommended that the study of Māori begin at Year 9. The study of German begins at Year 10, and Spanish at Year 12. A prerequisite for Spanish is the study of Latin or French in the junior school).
In addition students will choose

Students who have recently arrived in New Zealand with very little English or students for whom English is their second language and would benefit from an intensive programme will be placed in a reception class. They will be able to study English for several hours each day.
A literacy skills programme will also be offered to selected students.
