Our school has a fine reputation for the wide range of sporting codes offered, for its very high participation rate in sport, and for its sporting successes catering for all levels of ability.
Sport is administered by the Director of Sport and two Sports Assistants - students and parents can direct any queries they have regarding sport to them. Each sporting code has a teacher in charge and a student captain. From amongst these captains the Games Captain and Deputy are elected each year.
Members of staff, parents, senior students and members of the community all provide support towards sport as coaches, managers and umpires. We cannot over emphasise the need for parental support in order to provide sufficient coaches and managers for all of the teams we hope to enter in various sports. If you are able to help or would like more information, please call Trish Hurley.
Sport is further supported by the Sports Council comprised of interested past and present parents and staff. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month (excluding holidays) and all are welcome to attend.
The Sports Office is located next to the swimming pool, phone 970 6759.
We are proud of the large number of students who participate in sport and we are very grateful for the support of staff, parents and friends, which enable us to provide opportunities in such a wide range of sporting codes; in 2012 over a 1000 students participated in forty different codes.
We offer a strong, vibrant sporting programme and sport maintains a high profile within the school. Our philosophy of providing as many sporting and recreational opportunities as possible is demonstrated by our school's participation in interschool competition across all grades from elite to competition of a more "social" nature.
Sporting success is recognised at our weekly sports assemblies and celebrated at the annual Sports Dinner attended by students, staff, parents, coaches and friends of the school.
Teams and individuals who have experienced success at all levels in the current year receive their trophies and awards, school colours are presented to outstanding sportswomen, and Sports Council scholarships and awards are announced.
EGGS Colours are decided by a Colours Committee which considers nominations from Coaches and Teachers in Charge of Sports. The Committee makes its selections based on girls representing the school in Auckland, North Island and National Secondary Schools competition. The committee is responsible for maintaining an even and high standard from one year to the next.
All students who receive Colours have achieved at an outstanding level in their sport, and shown a high level of sportsmanship.
